The Flight For Life Medical Team

Nation's First and Finest

It comes as a surprise to some that the nation's first, and still one of its finest, air medical programs never requests financial information prior to an emergency flight. This service is part of St. Anthony Hospitals, and now Centura Health's commitment. Generous contributions from a grateful public help significantly.

In every way, Flight For Life is a Community Resource

We provide critical care transport for a nine state region, serving patients from the newly born to the very elderly.  Flight For Life transports patients to the most appropriate hospital, regardless of affiliation.  From its helicopter bases in Frisco, Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, Flight For Life covers 90,000 square miles of Colorado, southern Wyoming and northern New Mexico.  Its fixed wing airplanes, based at Centennial Airport, extend our service to eight surrounding states.  Our Newborn Team, based at The Children’s Hospital, provides stabilization and transport for our tiniest, most fragile patients.

Saving a Life

Flight For Life, operating out of Denver, Frisco, Pueblo and Colorado Springs, is part of the emergency transport services of Centura Health. Staffed by flight RN’s and paramedics, our helicopters are based at hospitals where our crewmembers participate in the care of critically ill and injured patients every day.  Since 1993, Flight For Life has been accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. We are proud that our emergency air and ambulance system was the first in Colorado to achieve this designation.  Flight For Life is the designated air medical transport provider for The Children’s Hospital, University Hospital, Outward Bound, many search and rescue teams and ski patrols.  From its base in Summit County, the program provides assistance to search and rescue teams across the state, and services including avalanche rescue.

How It All Started

Founded by St. Anthony Hospitals in 1972, Flight For Life was the first civilian hospital-based emergency air ambulance in the United States. Since then, it has served as the model for more than 300 flight programs worldwide.
